The England defender saw his World Cup end before it started after damaging knee ligaments during their first training session in South Africa.

And while he stuck around to watch Fabio Capello's side draw 1-1 with USA in their Group C opener, the 31-year-old is now back in Blighty to continue his rehabilitation.
