Angel di Maria is becoming key to Manchester United's bid to bring Cristiano Ronaldo back from Real Madrid. The Daily Express says Ronaldo has been tipped to return to the Premier League next summer, with Chelsea and Manchester City also keen to secure his signature.
Ronaldo is believed to be deeply unhappy at Madrid following the sale of close friend Di Maria, and publicly expressed his frustration at the club's hierarchy for allowing a key asset to leave, saying: "I have strong opinions but I can't always say what I think.
"Otherwise it would be on the front page tomorrow and I don't want that.
"But if it was up to me, I wouldn't have done so [sold Angel]."
Blues boss Jose Mourinho has set aside £60million to launch a bid next summer, but United boss Louis van Gaal is confident that Ronaldo will want a reunion with Di Maria, and the Dutchman will take advantage of their friendship to persuade the current Ballon d'Or holder to snub a Stamford Bridge switch and instead return to United.
