Manchester United have made contact with Real Madrid midfielder Xabi Alonso. The Daily Star says Xabi is in no rush to enter contract negotiations with Real Madrid after opening up initial talks with Manchester United.
The former Liverpool star is in the final year of his current deal at the Bernabeu and interest is mounting from around Europe.
Reports in Spain suggest that the talks with United have convinced Alonso to rethink his initial first choice, which was to remain in his native country.
Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has been monitoring the Spanish international's situation and was keen to link up again with him at Stamford Bridge having worked together for three years at Madrid.
