Manchester United are convinced of landing Everton midfielder Jack Rodwell.
The Mirror says United believe they are in pole position to snap up £25m-rated Rodwell.
Everton boss David Moyes lost Wayne Rooney in similar fashion in 2004 - only this time any cash raised will be used to ease Everton's financial plight rather than fund incoming transfers.
Manchester City and Chelsea are also keen on Rodwell.
