Man Utd concerned Giggs will leave if not given top job

Manchester United chiefs are growing increasingly worried that Ryan Giggs will leave if he is not appointed as the club's next manager.

With Louis van Gaal's role at Old Trafford continuing to grow in uncertainty, there are plenty of rumours floating around regarding who will step into the hot-seat when the Dutchman leaves or is fired.

Former Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho is reported to be the number one target for United but club officials are concerned that stalwart Giggs, who is also high on their wish-list, will depart if he is not given the opportunity to take over according to the Daily Mirror.

The 42-year-old, who is van Gaal's current assistant, has been with Man Utd since joining the youth academy as a 14-year-old back in 1987 but could end his lengthy partnership with the club if Mourinho or anybody else replaces van Gaal.

Executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward has reportedly told people close to him that he won't sack van Gaal anytime soon but United are still making contingency plans for any potential exit of the former Barcelona and Bayern Munich manager.
