Man Utd coach Joyce to be careful with Mats Daehli promotion

Manchester United reserves coach Warren Joyce says they're trying to bring through teenage midfielder Mats Daehli.

The Norwegian midfielder is still eligible for the Academy but had a brief taste of action at a higher level last season and was involved in both Manchester United XI friendlies in Ireland this week.

Indeed, the teenager scored the only goal of the game at Longford Town and clearly caught the eye of the local journalists.

When asked about Daehli's best position at a post-match press conference in Cork, Joyce replied: "He's not an out-and-out winger but we want to take him out of the heat of things at the minute as he's physically nowhere near his maximum.

"So we ask him to take up positions where we can get the ball to him and he can do clever stuff but we don't see him as an out-and-out winger.

"He's a clever footballer. He's got talent but overdid it a little bit tonight and could've run a bit harder to get in beyond them to give them problems. He can handle the ball but he's got a lot to learn about the position. He's technically a good player, gifted with a quick brain and good mind and sees things."
