Manchester United fear losing David de Gea for NOTHING next year. The Sunday Mirror says United now genuinely fear that they could lose the 24-year-old for a fraction of his true worth this summer, or even see him walk away from the club for nothing when his current deal expires at the end of next season.
De Gea's contract stand-off has now become a ticking timebomb - and all attempts to defuse it have failed.
A United insider said: "It has turned into the worst-case scenario.
"There has been no indication that De Gea will sign a new contact and at some point a decision will have to be made when to cash in on him.
"When a player enters the final 12 to 18 months of his contract, his value begins to drop dramatically.
"There's talk of De Gea being worth £50million, but that is unrealistic given there is probably only one club he would sign for."
