Man Utd chief scout makes new check on Benfica stars Garay, Gaitan

Manchester United have stepped up their interest in Benfica defender Ezequiel Garay.

The Uruguay international is under consideration at United as a long-term successor for Rio Ferdinand.

O Jogo says United chief scout Martin Ferguson was in the stands to watch Garay in action against Beira-Mar.

Also of interest to Ferguson was Garay's teammate Nicolas Gaitan, who has been a long-term target for United manager Sir Alex Ferguson.
