Real Madrid midfielder Xabi Alonso is expected to shun a return to the Premier League.

Xabi, off contract in June, has been linked with Manchester United and Chelsea in recent days.

But Punto Pelota says Xabi, should he fail to agree new terms with Real, favours a move away from Europe and fancies a career swansong in the USA's MLS.

United are said to have already made contact with the former Liverpool man's camp to register their interest.
