Manchester United and Chelsea have been alerted to news that Paulo Henrique Ganso has rejected a new contract offer from Santos.
For some Brazilian judges, Ganso is a bigger talent than his teammate Neymar, who remains wanted by Chelsea.
He declared: "I know what Santos has offered me through my representatives but I did not consider it suitable for me as a proposal.
"So I ended up not accepting.
"Also, I do have the right to say no."
United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has glowing reports on Ganso and has deliberately pushed for the midfielder while allowing Chelsea to go for Neymar this year.
