Man Utd, Chelsea face new battle prising Ribery from Bayer Munich

Manchester United and Chelsea face a new obstacle in attempts to prise Franck Ribery away from Bayern Munich.

Bayern's hopes of holding on to Ribery have been boosted by a potential £90million tie-up with German car maker Audi.

The Bundesliga giants had been expected to cash in on interest from Chelsea, Manchester United, Real Madrid and Barcelona next summer because the France star's contract only runs to the middle of 2011.

But the new-found wealth for a club who are already in rude health could convince Ribery that his future lies at the Allianz Arena.

The club's general manager Uli Hoeness said: "This is a participation (in the club) and a long-term contract. It is a package. An advertising contract and a participation. The amount is well over 100 million euros (£90m)."
