Manchester United and Chelsea are chasing Lazio defender Stefan de Vrij.

Il Messaggero says United are currently in pole position to land the Holland international in a deal in the region of £30million.

The reports in Italy have suggested United have reached a verbal agreement for the defender to sign next summer.

But despite this rumour, Chelsea and Milan are still believed to be keeping tabs on the situation and are still hopeful of striking a deal.

De Vrij's current contract expires in June 2018 and Lazio may choose look to either cash in on try and get him to sign a new deal.

The centre half has impressed since arriving in 2014 from Feyenoord for £6.5million – making over 50 appearances – and now Lazio are set to make a huge profit.
