Manchester United are interested in Ajax fullback Gregory van der Wiel.
Ajax coach Frank de Boer has already declared he expects to lose Van der Wiel this summer, with the Holland international also wanted by Chelsea and AS Roma.
Rome sources say United manager Sir Alex Ferguson is keen on Van der Wiel and prepared to pay £12 million to beat Chelsea to his signature.
Roma also have the spending power, thanks to their new owners, to compete with United for the 23 year-old.
