Manchester United captain Wayne Rooney is looking forward to a fresh start with England under Sam Allardyce.
His 116th cap comes today against Slovakia — a record for an outfield Three Lions player — and he is now within sight of Peter Shilton's all-time best of 125 appearances.
Rooney, who will be 31 next month, said: “I want to try and do well with England, get to Russia first — that's the main objective — then try and do better with what we do.
“Be successful as a group of players and a nation. That's what we want.
“Things don't always happen as you'd like. It hasn't happened for England since 1966.
“But we'll have a go. We always do. And hopefully Sam can bring some of his magic to help us do that."
