Manchester United captain Wayne Rooney is eager to see their new signings step up to the mark.

Rooney hailed manager Louis van Gaal's work in the transfer window which has seen the additions of the likes of World Cup Winner Bastian Schweinsteiger, Memphis Depay, Matteo Darmian and Morgan Schneiderlin.

And the captain laid down the gauntlet to the incoming quartet.

"It is obviously important to help the new players settle in but the ones we have brought in are experienced and successful," he explained.

"I am sure they will add a lot to the team. I can try and help them learn about the history of the club and what is expected to be at this club and be successful but it is down to the players themselves to prove themselves and create their own history. I am sure they will be great signings."
