Man Utd captain Neville: Fabio devastated by red card

Manchester United captain Gary Neville admits Fabio da Silva was "devastated" after his dismissal in last night's Cup win over Wolves.

Neville told BBC Radio: "I thought that he was a bit unlucky, he slipped and obviously he did bring him down. I have not seen it again so i don't know so I don't know if somebody else was nearby but at the time the feeling was that it may be a sending off to be fair.

"It's just unfortunate. Fabio is one of those players who has not maybe played as much and when you get a game it's disappointing that he slipped and there was not much he could do about it."

Neville revealed he'd already had a word to the young Brazilian before the post-match interviews.

"I just said he was unlucky but the main thing is to get him off the pitch as quick as possible so we could carry on with the game. He was absolutely devastated because he doesn't get a lot of chances to play and as a young player," said Neville.

"When I was playing in the Carling Cup, you might get one game every month and you want to take that chance and he was obviously devastated but my main consideration at the time was just to get on with the game and get him off the pitch so he could recover."
