Man Utd cannot afford to sleep in Europe - Mourinho

Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho has urged his players to use last season's European disappointment as motivation for the new campaign.

United were surprisingly beaten 2-1 by Danish side FC Midtjylland in the first leg of their Round of 32 Europa League clash last season before recovering to win 5-1 in the return bout at Old Trafford.

While no real harm was done from the defeat in Denmark, Mourinho says it can be a warning to the current Red Devils squad that playing against apparent lesser-likes in Europe's second tier club competition is no walk in the park.

Ahead of Thursday night's opening group stage game against Feyenoord, Mourinho said: "What happened last season in Midtjylland is something you don't forget as a fan, maybe you forget as a player, but not as a fan you don't forget it.

"We have to make sure with this kind of thing we are not sleeping and that we are not losing before the match starts because you don't find the right motivation and the right attitude."
