Man Utd bright spark Rashford could replace Liverpool star Sturridge – Wright

Ian Wright believes that young Marcus Rashford could replace Daniel Sturridge in the final 23-man England squad for this summer's Euro2016 tournament.

Rashford managed to make an instant impact for the England national team after finding the back of the net just 135 seconds into his debut in the 2-1 victory over Australia last Friday.

Following his fine performance, there have been talks that Rashford could be included in the final squad heading to the European Championships in France and now Arsenal legend Wright has stated that he would not be surprised if manager Roy Hodgson decides to include the 18-year-old ahead of the injury prone Daniel Sturridge.

Wright wrote in his column for The Sun: "Marcus had a great start to the week when he signed a new contract with United, yesterday.

"I really wouldn't be surprised if it got even better, and he was given a place in Roy's final 23.

"Of course if Rashford does make the plane, it could come at the expense of Daniel Sturridge. I do believe that, when fully fit and focused, Sturridge is still the country's most talented out-and-out striker.

"The big problem is whether the Liverpool hitman is genuinely at 100 per cent — and if so, can he stay that way throughout a demanding tournament.

"I know he trained yesterday, but that isn't really the issue. Roy isn't going to find the answer to that problem on the back of a couple more sessions.

"Daniel's injury problems mean he has played just 58 minutes for England since September 2014, and there's no doubt Harry Kane is Roy's No 1 striker right now.

"Jamie Vardy is pretty much nailed on as the first attacking substitute, with Rashford in there as well. With Rooney still likely to play up front, that means Sturridge could end up as the FIFTH choice striker."
