Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal doesn't want to see Chris Smalling sold to Arsenal in January.
The Daily Star Sunday says Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is prepared to pay £10million for the Manchester United defender.
But United boss Van Gaal also has defensive problems with Marcos Rojo, Phil Jones and Jonny Evans among those out injured.
For that reason the United boss will refuse to sanction the sale of Smalling - particularly to one of his club's rivals for Champions League qualification.
