Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal has been rebuffed over an approach for AC Milan midfielder Nigel de Jong. Van Gaal is in the market for a defensive midfielder and was linked with the Holland international during the summer.
Italian sources say Van Gaal, after taking in Milan's victory at Parma, called Milan vice-president Adriano Galliani to sound him out regarding De Jong.
After congratulating Galliani on the nine-goal thriller, Van Gaal asked: "So De Jong? He's for sale?"
"No, but thanks," was Galliani's reply.
