David de Gea could be recalled by Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal for their next game with Liverpool.
While United do not expect De Gea to sign the new £200,000-a-week long-term contract that has been on offer for six months, they are confident his professionalism and pride in performance will shine through now the transfer window has closed, says the Daily Express.
Senior figures at Old Trafford insist De Gea has not been a disruptive influence around the dressing room or training ground, remains popular with his team-mates and has been happy to attend every home game so far this season in his club suit and watch from the stands.
And with mis-givings over Sergio Romero's ability to be United's long-term No 1, De Gea is expected return to the team soon – he could be back as early as the next game against Liverpool at Old Trafford a week on Saturday – providing he convinces Van Gaal his head is in the right place.
