Manchester United aren't giving up on prising Thomas Vermaelen from Arsenal.
The Daily Star says they have rejected United's opening bid for Vermaelen.
It's understood that Louis Van Gaal will return with an improved offer if Vermaelen refuses to sign a new contract with the north London side.
