Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal made a personal check on PSV Eindhoven winger Memphis Depay this week. The Manchester Evening News says Van Gaal and part of his backroom team watched Holland beat Spain in Amsterdam on Tuesday.

Depay, promoted to the Netherlands World Cup squad last summer by Van Gaal, was Holland's top performer strengthening the belief that the 21-year-old will be part of United's summer recruitment drive.

The midfielder has also been linked with Tottenham and Real Madrid.
