Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal wants to bring Atletico Madrid defender Joao Miranda to Old Trafford this summer.

Van Gaal failed with a bid for the Brazilian last year, but AS says he remains keen and will move again for Miranda at the end of the season - if he remains.

Miranda has stated he's prepared to stay with Atletico next term, but the emergence of Jose Gimenez has seen the 31 year-old lose his first-choice status.

The player's representatives remain in contact with United and expect to hold fresh transfer talks towards season's end.

Van Gaal remains unconvinced by his current defensive options and feels the experience of Miranda would be a valuable addition.
