Man Utd boss van Gaal expects Shaw to be sidelined for up to six months

Louis van Gaal is of the belief that Manchester United youngster Luke Shaw could be sidelined for as much as six months.

The 20-year-old left-back suffered a double fracture of his right leg in a tackle from Hector Moreno in United's 2-1 Champions League group stage loss to PSV Eindhoven on Tuesday night which van Gaal suggests will sideline the talented defender for a lengthy amount of time.

"I'm not a doctor so I cannot say, but when you have a double fracture it is four to six months. But you can never say that in advance," said the Dutchman.

"He won't play in the group stage, I don't think. I hope he will play again this season."
