Man Utd boss van Gaal buoyed by spirit in Tottenham win

Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal was pleased his side showed a fighting spirit on Sunday.

The Red Devils bounced back from their FA Cup quarter-final disappointment at the hands of Arsenal to defeat Tottenham 3-0 in the Premier League at Old Trafford.

Goals from Marouane Fellaini, Michael Carrick and Wayne Rooney did the damage for United and prompted the following response from a proud van Gaal.

"They did everything to reach that goal that you are saying," said van Gaal.

"Maybe besides the first five minutes we had control over the match. We scored beautiful goals, we didn't give much away so we played very well.

"It is also the feeling they show on the training sessions, already that spirit and that for a long time.

"In spite of the defeat against Arsenal, in a very important game for us because we wanted to win the FA Cup.

"But then we lost from ourselves, what I have said, and the players know that also. Then you can show at the next training session you can show the same spirit as before then you are a fantastic professional."
