Man Utd boss relieved but frustrated with defensive performance

Manchester United again had to rely on their strikers as defensive frailties saw them fall two goals behind before a fightback enabled them to triumph 3-2 over a useful looking Sporting Braga in the Champions League. For United boss Sir Alex Ferguson it was the eighth time this campaign that United had fallen behind in twelve games and again their strikers had to rescue a result for the team from Old Trafford.

"I can't understand the defending though," said a clearly frustrated United boss.

"Our forward play keeps getting us out of a hole this season and we played some fantastic football going forward.

"Second half we gave some momentum to the game and speed and got the result most people would not have expected after going two goals down, and that's credit to the quality of the players.

"I can't get to the bottom of this defensive problem because if you analyse the goals we are conceding they are all different types.

"Interestingly it is the home games when we concede early, away we aren't too bad. But we will get to the bottom of it I'm sure of that."
