Manchester United boss David Moyes faces a crunch selection poser for the Community Shield clash with Wigan Athletic: Do I pick Wayne Rooney?
The Daily Mail says Monday's news that the 27-year-old will miss Tuesday night's friendly against AIK in Stockholm with a shoulder injury picked up in a behind-closed-doors game on Saturday was greeted with scepticism, particularly as the player is expected to submit an official transfer request later this week.
The injury is understood to be genuine and is expected to keep Rooney out of Rio Ferdinand's testimonial game against Sevilla at Old Trafford on Friday night.
But Rooney will be fit by the weekend and that means Moyes must decide whether to play him against Wigan on Sunday, thus leaving him open to abuse from United's travelling fans.
