Manchester United boss David Moyes admits he gambled with Robin van Persie's fitness last month. Van Persie will be missing for the seventh time when Manchester United face Swansea in the FA Cup today after failing to recover from a calf strain.
Moyes said: "I think if I'd brought him off (against Newcastle) some people would say 'What are you doing? You are 1-0 down and you're taking off your top goalscorer.'
"I think that answers why I left him on. Robin had a sore groin and, after he played really well against Arsenal, we gave him a week's holiday to recover. When he came back he hasn't really been right since then.
"He played against Newcastle and then in the next game he pulled his thigh taking a corner.
"But I think we have looked to do things correctly."
