Man Utd boss Mourinho: Why Martial started against Man City…

Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho has given his reasons for starting Anthony Martial in tonight's Manchester derby.

The French attacker was handed just his 14th Premier League start of the season against Manchester City at the Etihad having impressed against Burnley on Sunday.

Martial, who started alongside Hentrikh Mkhitaryan and Marcus Rashford, went for 80 minutes before he was replaced by Jesse Lingard.

Prior to the match, Mourinho said: "He had a good performance [against Burnley]. He hasn't had the accumulation of matches.

"He's not played many matches during the season especially 90 minutes. So he has to be in a good condition.

"[And] of course we want Martial and Rashford both fresh in this match to try and give us solutions."
