Jose Mourinho has dismissed Ajax manager Peter Bosz's suggestion that the Europa League final was a 'boring' encounter.
The Manchester United boss organised for his team to sit deeper and allow the Amsterdam club to retain the majority of possession. The tactic worked as United ran out 2-0 winners, with goals from Paul Pogba and Henrikh Mkhitaryan proving the difference.
Reflecting after the match, Mourinho drew similarities to the final from his 2010 Champions League victory over Bayern Munich with Inter Milan, and insisted teams don't necessarily need to play pretty to win trophies.
He said: "We played intelligently, we did it in a comfortable way. We were much stronger than them.
"If you are dominant in the air you go long. There are lots of poets in football but poets don't win many titles.
"We knew where we were better than them. We tried to exploit their weaknesses, we did that very well since the first minute and we got what we deserved."
