Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho refused to criticise Paul Pogba yesterday after his spotkick miss in victory at Burnley.
Pogba chose to take the penalty, despite Romelu Lukaku having scored both of United's two goals.
“I never blame a player for missing penalties," Mourinho said.
“I blame the ones who refuse to go up there. Paul's scored some good ones for us."
Asked if he would take the next spot kick for United, Mourinho replied: “If he wants, yes.
"The thinking is he is a very good penalty taker and likes the responsibility of it and he is first choice. Of course, we have second or third choices in case [the player is] not confident or some reason doesn't want to take.
“But he was ready and of course he trained lots of penalties during the World Cup because it's something, in a competition like that, every player trains a lot and he was very confident."
