The Manchester Evening News has reported that United manager Jose Mourinho is closing in on his preferred targets for the midfield position in the summer.
Mourinho has spoken about needing midfield reinforcements, given the impending retirement of Michael Carrick and the potential departure of Marouane Fellaini.
The newspaper claims the three main targets are Tony Kroos, Marco Verratti and Arturo Vidal.
Kroos and Verratti would be very ambitious, given their important positions at Real Madrid and PSG respectively.
However, Vidal is a possibility, as Bayern added Leon Goretzka on a free transfer for the summer, and he is getting older. The German club may want to get his wages off the books, and Mourinho would be happy to sign the Chilean international on a knockdown fee.
