Jose Mourinho says Marouane Fellaini reacted the way he did to show his gratefulness to the Manchester United manager.
The Belgian midfielder, so often maligned by the United faithful, came off the bench to head home the Red Devils' second goal in tonight's 2-0 EFL Cup semi-final first leg win over Hull City.
After scoring, Fellaini proceeded to race to Mourinho and plant a strong hug on the boss who was pleased for his player.
"I think he wanted to show that he knows how much I supported him in a couple of difficult moments for him," Mourinho told Sky Sports.
"Probably because I told him you are going to score the second goal, I don't know.
"It was nice for him to score in front of the fans and the second goal that can be an important goal."
