Man Utd boss Mourinho confirms Jones injury after Benfica absence

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has revealed that Phil Jones missed the Red Devils Champions League clash against Benfica due to injury.

Jones picked up the injury while on international duty for the England national team during the recent international break, but he did manage to play though United's Premier League draw against Liverpool last weekend.

The 25-year-old was part of United's squad that travelled to Portugal to play against Benfica and though he trained at the Estadio da Luz on Tuesday, Mourinho opted to leave him out of the match day squad.

Mourinho confirmed that Jones was injured during an interview with BT Sport: "Phil Jones was on the bench because he felt that if we really needed him, he could [play].

"So if he was at that stage today, on Saturday I think he will be in a condition to play."
