Manchester United midfielder Juan Mata has been warned he won't be a first choice this season under manager Jose Mourinho.

The Telegraph the 28-year-old's future looked to be plunged into doubt in May when Mourinho succeeded Louis van Gaal and he was linked to Everton.

But Mata's long-term future appears to be safe for now.

It is suggested the midfielder has been told and now accepted he won't be an automatic starter under Mourinho this season.

He may indeed have to accept a new role if he is to get more game time later on in the campaign.
