Sir Alex Ferguson is set to meet up with referees' chief Keith Hackett after a series of barbs aimed at the general manager of the Professional Game Match Officials Board. "We have written to Sir Alex Ferguson, making it clear that in our view his comments were inappropriate," an FA spokesman told The People.

"Keith Hackett has no involvement with the claims-for-wrongful-dismissal process and we reiterated this to Sir Alex.

"Alex and Keith Hackett have agreed to meet privately to discuss this and other issues. "In view of this we have decided not to take any formal disciplinary action in relation to this matter."
