Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson will not consider selling Michael Owen this month.
The People says Sunderland's hopes of landing Owen have been shot down by Fergie, who has promised the former England striker more games in the second half of the season.
Sunderland chief Steve Bruce was set to swoop for Owen, who is starved of first-team action at United.
Ferguson would let Owen go if he could land a top-quality replacement.
