Man Utd boss Ferguson: We'll be careful with Ronaldo

Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson admits he may start the game at Chelsea with Cristiano Ronaldo again on the bench. Ronaldo's second-half appearance against Villarreal last night sparked United into life, but Ferguson said: "It was Cristiano's first game back tonight and it would be a big ask to think about Sunday.

"He did not even play a training match, which shows you how well he has done to come back in the time he has."

The enthusiastic reception Ronaldo received from the United support should at least ease any fears that the on-off transfer saga involving Real Madrid has affected his relationship with the fans, which Ferguson feels is a big thing for the 23-year-old.

"Cristiano knows what great support he has always been given here," he said.

"He has been fantastic for us. The fans recognise how many goals he has scored."
