Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson admits they took a close look at new Rangers defender Carlos Cuellar while he was with Osasuna.

He said: "Rangers are a far more galvanised outfit and look much harder to beat.

"Now they have a wee bit experience at the back with David Weir and they tell me the boy Cuellar has been doing terrifically. In fact, our Martin Ferguson, United scout had a good look at him, too."
