Man Utd boss Ferguson wary of Wigan banana skin

Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson has concerns of a Wigan Athletic banana skin.

United have won all 11 meetings - including the Carling Cup final in 2006 - scoring 35 goals and conceding just four along the way.

Yet Fergie has seen some strange results already this term and has warned his players to make sure they are not on the end of the biggest shock of all.

The Old Trafford chief said: "There are surprise results coming about.

"We saw some evidence of that last season and it has been the same this season.

"There is a bit of inconsistency about Wigan - but they are a capable side.

"They beat Tottenham at their place, had a good result against West Brom and drew with Liverpool.

"I think they seem to be turning the corner in terms of consistency."

Wigan boss Roberto Martinez has won many admirers for the way he has tried to get the Latics playing football - even if the results have not always been there.

Fergie said: "Roberto gets the rewards himself by sticking to his philosophy and what he believes in, which is good.

"It shows he has strong management."
