Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson is monitoring Gerard Pique's situation at Barcelona. The former United defender has found himself on the bench and in the stands this season after falling out with coach Pep Guardiola.
Guardiola's departure may change things for the better, but Pique will seek assurances from incoming coach Tito Vilanova about where he stands in his plans.
The Daily Star says Ferguson wants to build his defence around Pique, having had the Spaniard on his books for four seasons.
The Spaniard has always spoken highly of the United manager.
