Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson says the match officials should have protected Wayne Rooney during last night's Champions League heartbreaker. Rooney lasted less than hour as Bayern Munich players targeted his dodgy ankle.
Fergie said: "We expected them to target Wayne's injury but it is up to the ref to stop that. He had a couple of challenges and got a burst blood vessel.
"We took a risk. Now we will have to look at the situation again.
"I do not think the problem is serious but we will give him more treatment."
