Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson was delighted with Danny Welbeck's performance in last night's Carling Cup victory over QPR.

Welbeck won the penalty, which was converted by Carlos Tevez, that proved the winner on the night and Ferguson said: "Danny is an exceptionally talented young lad.

"He has been troubled by a groin injury recently and only played his first game back at Celtic in a reserve game last week.

"He is probably a bit short in fitness terms but he made a difference when he came on."
