Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson is stepping up his interest in Sporting Lisbon midfield schemer Miguel Veloso.

Ferguson was tipped off about the versatile Portuguese more than a year ago and has watched him since, says the Daily Mail.

Veloso, 21, can play at left back and centre back but now plays in midfield and has attracted interest from Arsenal and Liverpool.
