Man Utd boss Ferguson shocked by FIFA England snub

Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson admits he was shocked by FIFA's snub of England.

Ferguson, who appeared in a promotional video the England bid team showed as part of their final presentation, also urged fans and administrators to move on rather than dwell on the fact the finals will be in Russia instead.

"It is a big disappointment," Ferguson told radio station Key 103. "What I am surprised at is that they only got two votes. I thought the criteria - great stadia, good infrastructure in the country, where it is easy to move around, really enthusiastic supporters - was really strong for the World Cup.

"You never know how these things are going to work in terms of committees and things like that. You always worry about a committee when they get all together and how it is influenced by bigger, stronger personalities. That has always been the case, whether it has been football or anything."

Ferguson added: "The most important thing is for the nation just to forget it. Okay, it has gone to Russia and then 2022 to Qatar - good luck to them.

"I hope it is a good World Cup, because we need a good World Cup. We have not had a good one in terms of quality since maybe 1986 in Mexico."
