Evans, 25, was rewarded with a four-year contract last month and is close to marking 150 games for United.

Now Fergie believes he could even go on to wear the United armband. He said: "He's a fantastic footballer. He's quick and has two great feet.

"But the development in the last couple of years has been in his authority within games."
