Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson says Wayne Rooney will be fit for the derby against Manchester City on Monday.

Fergie insists Rooney was only left out for defeat to Chelsea in the FA Cup as a precaution.

The Scot said: "He got a groin injury playing for England. He wasn't 100 per cent.

"There's no point risking him because groin injuries can get a lot worse and he could be out for weeks.

"But he will be ready for next Monday's game."
