Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson has received an unexpected double midfield boost.

United's title challenge was disrupted by the absences of Tom Cleverley and Darren Fletcher through injury and illness respectively last season.

But they are both set to add depth to Ferguson's engine room as he attempts to reclaim the Premier League trophy from Manchester City.

The United manager has spent the summer trying to improve his midfield, which was one of the key areas in which his side fell short of Roberto Mancini's champions.
