Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson plans to buy a new midfielder for the first time in six years.
The last time Ferguson signed a central midfielder was in 2007 with the arrival of Anderson from Porto.
The Mirror says the expected retirement of 38-year-old Paul Scholes will leave a midfield place up for grabs.
To fill it, Ferguson has looked at Borussia Dortmund's Marco Reus, Kevin Strootman of PSV Eindhoven and Celtic's Victor Wanyama.
